If you are restoring an antique British motorcycle from the 1930s through the 1950s, you are likely to encounter coarse British Standard Whitworth threads in castings, etc. that require attention. This 23-piece tool set contains taps and dies for restoring Whitworth threads on nuts, bolts, and studs. Supplied with adjustable tap and die handles and contained in a sturdy metal case. Not suitable for cleaning and tapping BSC, BSF, or CEI fine threads, as found on most 1950s and 1960s British motorcycles.
The tap and die set includes (7) dies and (14) taps ranging from 1/8″-40BSW through 1/2″-12BSW, with both tapered and bottoming taps included. Manufactured from high carbon steel for clean cutting and durability. Sourced from Gunson in the UK.
Whitworth threads are commonly found in classic British automobiles, as well as motorcycles, making this kit ideal for the restorer of Jaguar, MG, and other antique British cars.
Taps and dies require great care while using, and it is recommended to use thread-cutting oil when cutting or chasing damaged threads. Careful cleaning of cutting tools after use will extend the service life of the taps and dies.
