This pair of (2) instrument light bulbs were common to many British motorcycles with Smith’s speedometers and tachometers from the late 1960s onward. Suitable for use in applications requiring 12 volt 3 watt bulbs with a small globe and BA9 bayonet-style base. Can also be used as a pilot bulb, but will be dimmer than an original 6 watt Lucas 989 bulb.
Similar to the Lucas 989, the 643 bulb is rated for 3 watts when used in a 12 volt system. The small globe will easily fit into the aperture at the base of most Smith magnetic speedometers and tachometers.
The bulb features a bayonet-style BA9 base which is pushed into the bulb holder and turned 1/4 turn clockwise to lock the bulb in place. The bulb provides illumination to the interior of the instrument, which lights up the face of the instrument for night time viewing.
The bulb holder is secured in the instrument by the spring clips that surround the rim of the bulb holder. It must be pulled out of the instrument to replace the bulb.
