Many electronic ignition systems for vintage British motorcycles call for the use of resistor spark plugs or suppressor caps for the high-tension leads. This type of cap can be fitted to conventional 7mm spark plug wires. Supplied with rubber boots for waterproof connections. Provides 5K ohms resistance, as suggested by Tri-Spark and other electronic ignition manufacturers. Not recommended for use with magneto ignitions.
Suitable as an NGK or Champion equivalent, the body of the K&S spark plug cap is made of hard black plastic resin similar to “Bakelight” and features a 90 degree elbow and insulating rubber boots. Suitable for 6 or 12 volt coil ignition systems.
The spark plug cap is the nexus between the high tension lead and the spark plug. A solid and corrosion-free connection between the ignition coil and spark plug is key to having consistent spark at the spark plug. Resistor caps help prevent electromagnetic interference and protect ignition modules from voltage spike feedback.
The high-tension wire boot is first slid on over the wire, then the end of the wire is screwed into the receptacle of the cap until fully seated. The boot is then slid up and over the inlet of the cap, forming a moisture-proof seal.
