Fitment

This spoke set fits Triumph models that have the cast 7″ full-width SLS front hub laced to a 19″ WM2 rim. That includes the 1961–1968 US-specification Triumph 500s:

  • Triumph T100SR, T100SC, T100R and T100C, 1961–1967
  • Triumph TR5AR and TR5AC
  • Triumph T100C, 1968

Not for 17″ or 18″ front rims, which are common on UK home-market 350 and 500 models. Devon makes separate spoke sets for those rims (MB13 for 17″ and MB14 for 18″). Not for the flanged-type 7″ full-width hub, the 7″ single-sided hub, or 8″ hubs. Check your hub against the photos before ordering. If you’re not sure which hub you have, send us photos and we’ll confirm.

Why Stainless Spokes

Original Triumph spokes were galvanized steel, which rusts and loses its finish over time. Devon’s 304 stainless spokes stay bright and resist corrosion. The butted design keeps the full 8 gauge thickness at the head, where most spoke breakages happen, and tapers to 10 gauge along the rest of the spoke. That keeps the strength where it’s needed and saves a little weight. All 40 spokes are the same length and are straight, which makes the set easy to sort and lace.

Wheel Building Notes

  • The spokes are fitted from the inside of the brake drum.
  • Use a spoke thread preparation compound to prevent the stainless threads from galling in the brass nipples.
  • Follow your workshop manual for the lacing pattern and the rim offset.
  • Use a truing stand and a spoke wrench sized for .300″ nipples.
  • Wheel building takes specialized tools and experience. If you haven’t laced a wheel before, an experienced wheelbuilder is the safest choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Devon MB11-7-FW-SSP spoke set fit?

It fits Triumph models with the cast 7″ full-width single leading shoe front hub and a 19″ WM2 rim. That includes the 1961–1967 US-specification Triumph T100SR, T100SC, T100R, T100C, TR5AR and TR5AC, and the 1968 T100C.

Which original Triumph part numbers does this spoke set replace?

It replaces 40 Triumph 37-1236 (W1236) front spokes and 40 S79-2 spoke nipples. It suits the 19″ WM2 rim, Triumph part number 37-1230 (W1230).

What gauge are the spokes and what size are the nipples?

The spokes are 8/10 gauge butted stainless steel: 4.0 mm at the head, tapering to 3.2 mm. They come with 40 brass nickel-plated nipples with a .300″ (7.6 mm) barrel.

How long are the spokes?

All 40 spokes are straight and the same length, about 6″ under the head, matching the original 37-1236 pattern.

Will this set fit a Triumph with a 17″ or 18″ front rim?

No. This set is only for 19″ WM2 rims. UK home-market models with 17″ or 18″ front rims need a different spoke set.

Will it fit an 8″ full-width front hub?

No. The 8″ full-width hub needs different spokes. Use the Devon MB11-8-FW-SSP set for an 8″ full-width hub with a 19″ WM2 rim.

Where are Devon Rim Company spokes made?

In Crediton, Devon, England. Devon Rim Company makes its spokes from UK-sourced 304 stainless steel wire to original factory bends.

Does the set include nipples?

Yes. The set includes 40 spokes and 40 matching brass nickel-plated .300″ nipples, enough for one front wheel.
