The 1969-1979 Triumph 500, 650, and 750 models are fitted with a short UNC-threaded plug in the primary chaincase to allow access to the primary chain adjuster. This plug also serves as a drain plug and is sealed with an o-ring or fiber washer.

This flanged drain plug features a corrosion-resistant zinc finish and a small hex head. Threads are 7/16″-14 TPI UNC, with an overall length of approximately 3/4″. Made in the UK.

The plug must be removed to drain the primary chaincase of it’s oil prior to performing primary chain adjustments or clutch service. A fiber washer is used under the flanged head of the plug to seal the plug against the chaincase on the 650 models, while the 750 models were fitted with an o-ring in place of the fiber washer.

On some models, the left-hand side of the exhaust system must be loosened or removed to access the hex head of the plug with a spanner or socket/ratchet combination. Some owners modify the plug with a slot cut across the hex head, allowing the use of a flat-blade screwdriver tool for reinstallation of the plug prior to fully tightening.
