The split cotters are critical for retaining the individual cups, collars, valve springs and valves together as an assembly. (2) split collets are used on each valve assembly.
The premium US-made Kibblewhite split collets are manufactured to correct tolerances to enhance installation of the valve assembly to the cylinder head. KPMI® manufactures these fully machined keepers from high tensile strength heat treated steel. Close attention to details such as taper angle, ID, OD, and width insure proper, repeatable fitment and assembly locations.
The split collets are retained by the top collar and the machined cutaway on the valve stem. They are slipped into the collar once the valve spring has been compressed far enough to allow the valve stem cutaway to capture the split collets.
