Dating back to 1976, TJ Wassell Engineering Ltd has been producing exhaust system components for vintage British motorcycles employing traditional handmade methods used originally to maintain authenticity.
This set of (2) silencers are specified by part number for the early unit-construction US-market Triumph 650 road-going models from 1963-1964, but were also specified for the 1963-1968 UK-market models requiring the longer silencers. While the silencers are finished to a high standard, individually hand-crafted exhaust pipes and silencers may contain markings from manufacturing and there may be residual polish from the factory that can be buffed out to a high lustre.
Finished in chrome-plating, these silencers feature the classic Triumph “teardrop” shape and have an inlet ID of 1-1/2″ and an extended overall length of approximately 26-1/2″ with integrated bosses for the mounting brackets. Made in the UK by TJ Wassell.
The traditional OEM-style internal baffling is designed to replicate the original acoustic and back-pressure characteristics of the home-market models.
The inlets of the silencers fit over the ends of the exhaust pipes and are secured with 1-5/8″ clamps. There are threaded bosses on the backside of the silencers for the bolts that retain the mounting brackets. It is advisable to loosen the exjaust system while fitting the silencers to allow for alignment adjustments prior to tightening the hardware.
Please note: Due to varying bans on the use of hexavalent chrome in the chroming process, this item will have varying appearance different than OEM standards. Chromers are frequently using trivalent in their processes. “It’s just not the same color. Hexavalent has that clear blue sheen, but trivalent is more grayish and smoky. Trivalent will not replace the look of hexavalent.”
