Dating back to 1976, TJ Wassell Engineering Ltd has been producing exhaust system components for vintage British motorcycles employing traditional handmade methods used originally to maintain authenticity.
This set of unbalanced “Sweptback” 3-bend exhaust pipes are reminiscent of the cafe racer-style exhaust headers often used with rearset foot pegs. While the exhaust pipes are finished to a high standard, individually hand-crafted pipes may contain markings from manufacturing and there may be residual polish from the factory that can be buffed out to a nice lustre.
Manufactured and chrome-plated in the UK, the OD of the flared cups measure 1-3/4″, with an ID of 1-5/8″ to fit over exhaust spigots. The terminus of the headers measure 1-1/2″ where the silencers are fitted. This set of exhaust pipes are not manufactured for use with a balance tube. The fitment for this exhaust is not factory original and will require modifications to install on a stock 1960’s era Triumph 650.
Suitable for fitment to 1963-1970 unit-construction Triumph 650 models, although the foot rest arrangement must be modified to allow for clearance with the header pipes. This exhaust pipe set can also be fitted to “Triton” or “Tribsa” specials when the necessary modifications are made. May be suitable fitment for some pre-unit 500 and 650 models with 1-5/8″ OD exhaust port spigots.
Careful attention must be paid to the clearance of the individual header pipes around the shifter, brake pedal, kickstarter, and foot rests. It is recommended that the entire exhaust system is loosely fitted to allow for final alignment corrections prior to tightening up the fasteners.
Please note: Due to varying bans on the use of hexavalent chrome in the chroming process, this item will have varying appearance different than OEM standards. Chromers are frequently using trivalent in their processes. “It’s just not the same color. Hexavalent has that clear blue sheen, but trivalent is more grayish and smoky. Trivalent will not replace the look of hexavalent.”
